Submissions

The editors of Aries invite submission of original, unpublished poetry (including poetry written in Spanish and translated); fiction; one-act plays; and black-and-white photography and art. Aries is open to a wide variety of perspectives, ideas, and theoretical approaches; however, at the heart of all editorial decisions is the overall quality of the work submitted.

Guidelines:

  • Poetry: up to 50 lines each

Spanish entries: Provide both original Spanish and English versions

  • Fiction: 200-2,000 words
  • Plays:  500-2,000 words
  • Black-and-White Photos/Art:  up to 8.5” x 11” (paper printed; no slides, please)
  • Limit entries to 5 per year
  • No names or identifying marks on the entries themselves.
  • Include a cover page listing titles of submissions, name, mailing address, phone number, email address, and 100-word biographical sketch.
  • Simultaneous submissions are acceptable; however, the Aries board must be notified in the case of publication elsewhere.
  • No entries will be returned.
  • Include self addressed stamped envelope

Aries accepts submissions between September 1 and January 31 only.

The submissions are then sent out for blind review in February, and personal responses are mailed in May.  No fewer than three readers will consider each work.

The journal is published every summer.
